Unplug. Create. Connect. Those are the words painted on a wall you’ll see as you walk into a special place. It started for me as a place to get ice cream in a local town. It turned into a special place to be, create, and make memories.
Welcome to The Cherry On Top
Walking up to the storefront, you’ll see cherry red tables and chairs and an adorable red and white striped awning. On the concrete front walk, you’ll see sidewalk chalk doodles welcoming you in. As you walk into the front door, a bell indicates your presence and you are welcomed by a smiling face. A waft of something delicious gets your mouth watering. But before you even notice the smell is actually waffle cones being made and a freezer full of ice cream, you’ll notice colorful items around the store. One wall showcases colorful glass from each color of the rainbow. Another wall holds shelves of ceramic characters, animals, mugs, and other dishes begging to be painted. Further along the walls, you’ll see tables filled with bottles of paint. Way in the back is a kiln or two and then it sinks in that this is not just a place to get some ice cream.
Unplug
We all have busy lives. Sometimes life gets far too busy and we find ourselves drifting in the fast lane and we forget to slow down. We forget that taking a break from the “rat race” is NECESSARY, not just something we want to do. We need to treat ourselves and each other. This is a place where you can leave the constant tie to the technology behind you. Forget all the noise outside. Resist everything that pulls you in every direction. Instead, pick up a paintbrush or choose colorful pieces of glass for your masterpiece. Settle in with your supplies as you taste some delicious ice cream (or enjoy your treat after your art completion) and let yourself create something amazing.
Create
Choose anything from ceramic mugs and magnets to fun characters of all kinds. You will be provided with a tray of supplies right to your table. Choose your colors and your brushes, and you’re off to create your masterpiece. Listen to some tunes in the background, enjoy the aroma of waffle cones being made, and let your mind wander to relaxing and imaginative things. A break from it all in a fun and friendly place will let you imagine without all the distractions. Once you are done painting, all you have to do is keep it at the store for it to be fired in the kiln for you. This is the same with the fused glass. Create a fused glasswork of art and make something you’ve never made before. It’s a wonderful excuse to come back, as you get your finished piece. Not only will you create something wonderful, but you will make a very special connection.
Connect
When you unplug and create, you can’t help but connect to what is truly important. If you come by yourself, you connect with yourself in a special way. Treat yourself to a yummy treat and create something you can be proud of. Or create a special gift for a special someone. Make connections by bringing your loved ones and interacting while you paint. Use your phone ONLY to take memorable pictures (or call and invite someone to join you), but enjoy the break from being unplugged. Watch the joy in your kids’ (or grandkids’) faces as they create. Bring your loved ones to this special place as something unique to do in town when they are visiting. Plan a special date night for that someone special. Don’t Forget the Ice Cream!
There are 24 different flavors of delicious ice cream to choose from. You also get many choices of toppings, as well as the option of a cup, cone, milkshake, or float to enjoy. Not only can you find gifts to create but you can also find some unique and fun gifts around the store, from scented slime and fun interactive card games (which you can try out at each table) to keychains for backpacks. There is something for everyone in this special place. As you wait for your ice cream, read the warm and welcoming messages on the walls, and you cannot help but smile.
Support Local Businesses
The Cherry On Top started as a place to get ice cream for me. Once I stepped inside for the first time, I saw it was much more than that. When I read, “Unplug, Create, Connect” on the wall in front of me, I knew I found something special. Not only was I treated warmly, but I also felt inspired as I gazed around the store. I couldn’t help but browse and think of people “who would LOVE this.” People have come from near and far to check out this special place at 407 S. Western in Lampasas. You won’t be sorry you ventured into this welcoming and wonderful place to “unplug, create, and connect.”
