I come from a family history of heart issues, so I’m always looking for ways to keep my ticker in good health. There are some things you can do to show your heart some love by controlling the health of your heart. Read on to see some great points I’m sharing with you.

Our hearts are muscles and just like all muscles, they need to be used. Exercise is essential in keeping blood pumping more efficiently throughout your body. This helps in living a longer and more productive life as Anything that gets your heart pumping consistently (brisk walking, swimming, bicycling) will strengthen your heart muscle, improve your circulation, and help reduce your blood pressure and regulate cholesterol. Not only will regular exercise help in maintaining a healthy weight for your body frame, but this routine in your day is necessary in keeping your heart in tip-top shape.

As you exercise, you can also gain in other ways. Watch your health and earn with every beat of your heart. You’ll see what I mean here. There are so many ways you can monitor your health with technology, so why not benefit in other ways as well? Once you see this, you can see how important your health data is for you to keep track of.

Diet plays an important part in your heart health. Your body needs essential nutrients to function properly. It is proven that nutrient-dense beef like this quality beef provides many health benefits. We learn that much of the food we eat adds to our health problems and we have to unfortunately avoid them. It’s important to read labels, know where our food comes from, and listen to our bodies when they react to certain foods. Pay attention to how you feel after you give yourself time to try certain foods.

Finding heart-healthy recipes is important, as eating right for you takes a bit of planning. Prepping your food for the week so you have snacks readily available for you is an example. It’s easy to grab a quick but unhealthy snack or meal when you’ve got those hunger pangs taking your body over. Preparing your meals with love for yourself and your family will lead you to eat well, live well, and enjoy life the way you were meant to.

As we navigate through our chaotic world, we have to remember to manage our stress. It’s so important to seek out ways to do this for yourself. Find ways to bring calm into your world, however, that may be. For some, it’s prayer and/or meditation. For others, it could be doing something they love, such as art or reading. Yoga, deep breathing, and being outside is a great stress reliever for me. Be kind to yourself, find ways to take care of yourself, and find things that bring you peace and joy. Be cautious of things that aren’t great for your health and take the steps to protect yourself from them.

Music is a huge stress reliever for me. I am blessed to have access to it every day, as I get to be married to a musician. If he’s not writing or playing music, we’re listening to it. Read about his journey here and how music also helped him through tough times. Even if you don’t play an instrument or perform music in any way, listening to calming music helps relieve stress. Finding a quiet place and listening to your favorite tunes can be tranquil. For me, adding a glass of fine wine is another bonus. And not bad for my heart, I’m told.

If you prefer, seek the guidance of a professional who can help you on the health journey. It could be anyone from a doctor to a yoga instructor…anyone who can help you along the road to better health. You know when you feel better and when you feel lousy. Pay attention to how you feel based on diet, activity, and stress. Pay attention to your heart health on more than just “heart” days like Valentine’s Day, your birthday, or an anniversary. Show it some love as a gift to yourself. You deserve it!
