Highway Life is a journey to a special destination. We all love to get there, but we should pay attention to HOW we reach that place. Sometimes that planned vacation wasn’t the best one you’ve been on. But the car ride maybe was a different story. The music, laughs, and new people in new places along the way made it worthwhile. Sound familiar? That is exactly what Highway Life is all about.
Highway Life Music Festival
At one point or another, I wanted to quit my teaching job, buy an RV, and travel across the country with the love of my life. The only problem is, we were both teachers teaching in the public school system. Husband is a musician. He plays guitar and leads a band, playing local gigs almost weekly. The dream? Take it on the road! Sell everything, and figure out how to live with the bare minimum while also ensuring we care for our children’s needs. At one point, we had children in every grade in high school, so we’re hoping SOMEONE would get some scholarship.
My man is talented. He’s got a great voice and loves to play guitar, while also writing his own songs (some about me!) His dream would be to play music and teach History. It’s a big dream, and being a dreamer is one of the things I love most about him. While he patiently waited until I paid off my debt, we dreamed together, discussing our future travels, his music, and where we’ll eventually hang our hats.
He came up with a local music festival, called Highway Life, celebrating the community and the hard-working people within it. He got 4 bands together, went from business to business getting sponsorships, and put on a great event in our community. His logo appeared around town, t-shirts were made, people were happy to be a part of it, and we were able to communicate with and meet some really great people. Highway Life represented the coming together of a community.
Celebrate Every Day
We ended up building a house in Texas, and we DID buy an RV, but that was to stay in while we visited the land and watched our house get built. The journey that got us here definitely had its bumps, but WOW! The scenery was something else to consider. I learned how to pray, trust, and follow along this journey, and it got me to where I am.
I love to live in the moment, taking good opportunities as they come. Not necessarily a huge risk-taker, I like to look at the risks from all angles before I take a leap. At the same time, I’m a short-term planner. I love to have little specks of things to keep my eye on to get me through the long days. It motivates me. Long-term planning isn’t what I do, although I am a forward thinker. I don’t want to waste time looking ahead to things I can’t enjoy SOON. My Love knows it takes some kind of planning to make these things happen. This is what makes my man and I such a great team. Life is short. We need to enjoy the ride while getting to the destination of a lifetime. “Vacation” movies come to mind. Wally World. Same idea.
Highway Life is about just that. The journey that gets us to our destination. The people we meet along the way. The connections we make and the valuable lessons we learn. Sharing is caring. I want to know it all. Your heartbreaks, your celebrations. It’s all part of this crazy thing we call LIFE. We all go through it together, even when we feel alone. We are all connected, so we might as well enjoy the journey together.
Enjoy reading about my wonderful amazing life. We have so many similarities but also many differences we can learn from each other. I am a life-long learner and love to hear about experiences.
