I started teaching almost 30 years ago. Things sure have changed since I started. As our world is always changing, so must the educational system to prepare our students for this ever-changing world. The conventional way of schooling that was administered by commercial and public institutions has served us well in the past. Currently, however, “Direct-to-Your-Home” education with Brainfood Academy is the solution for outdated educational systems. During the pandemic, students, parents, and teachers had a glimpse into what schooling COULD be for the future. It was clear that better solutions had to be developed.

I was a former public school teacher. One of the biggest drawbacks to our conventional education system is the “one-size-fits-all” approach in the classroom. I had to attend many professional development workshops, many on how to meet students’ needs. The unfortunate part of this is there will still be students who are way behind and those who are under-challenged. Brainfood Academy’s direct-to-your-home addresses this differently because each student has unique strengths, challenges, and interests. Individualized attention to students meets these needs, and progress at their paces, which in turn, will maximize their academic excellence.

One of the many reasons I left public school teaching was the rigidity of schedules and lessons. We were instructed to follow a “script” of our lessons. We were expected to carry out lessons to students in a way that did not allow much creativity and flexibility from teachers. Students were stressed out, and underperforming, and their behaviors were amped up, thus delaying their full learning potential. While parents are our children’s first educators, eventually students venture out and learn from the rest of the world. Good educators are the backbone of any quality education. When I taught previously, I noticed an unfortunate trend. Like many teachers, I was burdened with large class sizes, needless administrative tasks and training, and continuous changes in the curriculum (only to be changed again once teachers learned it). Any time I was able to work one-on-one with a student was a blessed opportunity to meet their needs. Sadly, this usually wasn’t possible with twenty-something other students with many other needs. Not unlike my situation, teachers are leaving the profession burnt out, stressed, and frustrated, which leads to health problems, unbalanced lives, and so on. Brainfood Academy’s platform allows educators more opportunities to interact with their students one-on-one, which was always preferential in my classroom.
Creating Lifelong Learners
As an educator, I strive to create lifelong learning experiences, because we never stop learning, right? In the traditional system, students are often “taught to the test.” This drove me crazy as an educator. I felt like I was constantly assessing students and I also started seeing a decline in the LOVE of learning, the lack of creativity with both students and teachers, and the status of a school (and the teacher, believe it or not!) based on test scores. This led to stress in teachers and students alike. Brainfood Academy recognizes the importance of lifelong learning. This is a skill that will lead to so many opportunities for individuals to upskill and pursue new passions. This, in turn, creates a balance in their education. There are many changes and demands in a competitive workforce. Our students need to be prepared to think for themselves and adapt to the changes.
