Our town is preparing for a major event…the Solar Eclipse. Hotels are sold out and RV parks are filled. T-shirts, mugs, and other swag fill shelves of businesses all around town. We even have a beautifully painted mural on a building wall for the big event coming in April. The total solar eclipse path is happening right over us and people are preparing for the big event.
It will be like darkness in the middle of the day for a short time. The moon will come between the Earth and the sun, and sunlight will be temporarily blocked. The moon’s shadow will cover Earth, making it briefly like nighttime. This is what happens during a solar eclipse. We will be right in the path of it, which is why many are traveling to our town. Consider checking out a great place, if you’re visiting us!
Our eyes are more susceptible to harm from the sun. This is because of the powerful UV (ultraviolet) rays and IR (infrared radiation). During a solar eclipse, there are increased risks of looking directly at the sun and staring. You may do this without realizing the damage you could be doing in the meantime.
Protective Glasses Are Necessary As You Prepare for the Solar Eclipse
This is a big event which will bring a lot of eyes to the sky. We want to be prepared for the big day and we’ll need specialized solar viewing glasses. They are designed to block harmful rays so we may safely view the sky’s big event. These glasses are important to prevent serious eye injuries. An example would be damage to the retina, which can lead to permanent vision problems or blindness. This damage can be irreversible if you are staring at the sun, even if it is for a brief time.
Have fun preparing for the big event, like we are!
We’ll have an amazing band, some tables of food, coolers, BYOB, tents, smokers filled with meat, and neighbors gathering for a fun time with friends and family. While you are planning, make sure you keep safety in mind. Wearing the protective glasses will be the fashion statement of the day, I suppose. I would suggest you get them quickly so you can choose your style before they sell out.
In the meantime, as you plan, consider bringing some fine wine to sip while you witness the big event. I’ll be sipping this amazing wine from an amazing wine club we love. My neighbors also love this wine and we love to pair our wine with foods we like. It’s fun to share family recipes at events such as this, and we all have our favorites. We look forward to sharing a special event with neighbors we know and ones we haven’t met yet. We hope you enjoy spending this amazing event with your family and friends safely.
